Beaches around Cape Coral
There are countless beaches with perfect white sand. The question where are the best beaches can not be answered. It is much more purposeful to ask yourself which kind of beach do I feel like today. The answer determines the destination.
Here are a few examples:
If you are planning a quiet day at the beach, bathing in the sun and in the water, read or just want to relax and unwind, then visit the beach of Naples. The beach is located behind beautiful mansions and the turquoise sea water is amazing. The beach can be entered thru many passage ways and therefore everyone can find their own private spot. A detour, not far from the beach, to the historic 300m long pier of Naples or to the “ boulevard „, the 5th Avenue South, with its many boutiques, cafes and restaurants is also very enjoyable.
Sanibel Island / Captiva Island
These two islands can be found regularly among the top 10 beaches in the whole United States. The sand is not quite as white and soft as in Naples due to thousand of shells, but have a wonderful natural finish. With over 400 shell species, an incomparable mixture of sand beach, exotic animals, lush vegetation and of course beautiful sunsets. All this makes a day on Sanibel and/or Captiva Island unforgettable.
If you feel like an active day at the beach, want to play beach volleyball, try wave runners, jet skiing, hobby cats or aqua cycles or swing by parasail in the sky:
Drive to Bonita Beach, to be exact to Doc’s Beach House. There you can rent all of the above for a reasonable fee. Even spectating is fun: for cozy lounging and sunbathing deck chairs and umbrellas are for rent. A beer at Doc’s Beach House by sunset completes the day at Bonita Beach perfectly.
Fort Myers Beach
During the week, a mixture of party and family beach and on the weekends action pur. It seems like all boaters in the region gather in front of the beach of Fort Myers Beach to celebrate the weekend. The beach is full and there is great live music on the beach or in the many pubs and restaurants. Party pur!
Cape Coral Beach
Take the whole family quickly to the beach without having to travel far?
Drive to Cape Coral Beach. This beach is inside the Yacht Club Community Park at the southeast corner of Cape Coral and also offers everything you could wish for. Among other things a pier, a fantastic play area for children, a beautiful view of Fort Myers and more.
Did you work up an appetite? Just go ahead – it’s all worth it!
Other possible activities and attractions
In Southwest Florida, there are countless ways to spend your day, active or less active, but in anyway according to your own wishes and fancies. Only those who want to indulge in winter sports or like to climb mountains, may have booked the wrong flight. It is therefore not possible to go into detail on all available activities. But we would like to illuminate a few highlights.
You find radiant sun, ideal temperatures around 25° C in the shade and over 1,100 golf courses. Many of them so beautiful that one has difficulty to concentrate on the game. The greens are huge and fast, in short, in perfect state, which send cold showers down the back, when you think about the local winter greens back home. All this is only nine hours away by plane. Florida is the ideal destination for those who want to play golf in the fall and winter time also, the climate is perfect for it from October to May. If you like it really hot, you can of course also play in the summer and look forward to the very inexpensive green fees at this time of year.
Alone in the radius of an hour’s drive to Cape Coral and Fort Myers you ‚ll find more than 100 golf courses. Most of them are playable against a green fee, a few are mere „Private Courses“, which is no restriction at all considering the huge selection of courses. Like almost everything in life, the perception of the quality of a golf course is a matter of taste.
Some rather enjoy the rustic character typical for the „Public Courses“ on which one meets the entire spectrum of American society. These courses are maintained in the majority of cases, as well as the much more expensive courses, but due to inexpensive green fees also quite often more frequented. An example of such a beautiful place is the Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral.
Others love rather the benefits of exclusive courses, which are often attached to exclusive hotel resorts. Chic clubhouses, famous architects, few players on the course, elaborate landscape designs on and off the fairways and greens are typical for such complexes. To indulge in such luxury at one time or another is definitely worth checking out, even so there is a higher green fee. Two of many examples of such courses: The Ritz-Carlton Tiburón Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman or the Old Corkscrew Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus.
In the middle of this spectrum there are many wonderful courses that are often part of so-called golf communities. A few examples: River Hall Country Club, Magnolia Landing, Pelican Preserve or Pelican´s Nest.
A tip: Create a list of golf courses that you wish to play before you leave. Book the tee times for the courses that you want to play over the website of the relevant course or through a portal like www.golfnow.com. If you are traveling as a couple or if you are somewhat willing to take risks as a larger group, it is also a good idea not to book all tee times in advance. This gives you the flexibility to react to positive surprises or good tips on site. Maybe you like a place so well that you want to play it a second time. Also important: Plan enough time for the journey to the place, the check in and the driving range.
If you wish, we will gladly assist you in choosing your golf courses. In any case, we wish A GOOD GAME!
Boating is part of the Cape Coral vacation like the sun, golf and good food. Discover the diverse and adventurous island world right outside your front door. Beautiful destinations are, for example the islands of Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island or Lovers Key. Located much further south, but of course also beautifully are the so-called Ten Thousand Islands with Marco Island, the largest of this island group. Also a slow cruise through the seemingly endless canals of Cape Coral with the many beautiful villas definitely has its own charm.
The best thing is: If you are born before January, 1st 1988 you do not need a license to drive a boot in Florida. If you rent a boat, most agencies require a minimum age of 21 years and a valid (German) drivers license. If you are born on January, 1st 1988 or thereafter you need a so called „Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card“. To get the license is not difficult, it costs 29,95$ and some of your time. The good thing is: Pass the test one time and the license is yours for the rest of your life. Check on the details before you start your vacation.
Depending on your experience and your language skills you will find the rental company that suits you the most. Useful services you can request include: Delivery and pick up of the boat directly to and from your rented dream home, a detailed boat instruction and a first guided ride. A good captain will take this opportunity to point out the characteristics of the coastal water, tell you how to drive through the lock, what you should consider when refueling and respond friendly and willingly to all your questions. Of course, he will also tell you a „secret “ or two known only to insiders, which will make every trip unique. For inexperienced boaters we urgently recommend the briefing and the test drive either with the boat renter or an experienced boatman. This is fun on one hand, but also brings the necessary self confidence for the first outing as a „responsible captain“.
During your independent tours you can visit the beautiful islands or stop at Ft. Myers Beach for swimming or for lunch. Watch manatees and sea turtles and let yourself be accompanied by dolphins. They love to play with the waves generated by the boat’s propeller and pop up to one meter out of the water. Let yourself be surprised!
As an example for often rented boats you find a Bayliner Bowrider 245. 2-8 people can easily spend a day on the water in such a boat. The price is around $ 250 per day, $ 650 for 3 days and at about $ 1,200 for a whole week. Prices vary depending on the provider, but should be for this class of boat in the mentioned range. In addition always add sales tax ( 6%) and the fuel that you consume. The briefing should always be without charge. For a „test drive“ most boat rentals charge about 40-50$ per hour, at some places this service is already included in the rent. Another good advice: Do not drive the boat without a so-called „Sea Tow Insurance“. This insurance covers the „towing“ if you should get stuck on the water, which can happen. This insurance is not that expensive and can save you a lot of money and aggravation. When you rent the boat ask if the insurance is already included or what the additional cost would be.
Since the range of boat rental companies is large and vary in detail too, an independent research is not only useful, but also fun. True to the motto: Anticipation is the greatest pleasure.
More ideas on possible activities, coupled with our own experience and tipps will follow shortly.
Wie an den Bildern schon zu erkennen, soll es um Ausflüge nach Orlando, Key West und in die Everglades gehen.
